The First Extensive Exploration of UV-bright Stars in the Globular Cluster NGC 2808

In this study, we identified and characterized the hot luminous UV-bright stars in globular cluster NGC 2808. We combined data from Ultra Violet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) on board Indian space satellite AstroSat with Hubble Space UV Globular Cluster Survey for central region (within ) Gaia ground-based optical photometry outer parts of cluster. constructed UV-optical color–magnitude diagrams, compared horizontal branch (HB) members theoretical zero- terminal-age HB models, 34 stars. The spectral energy distributions were fitted models to estimate their effective temperatures (12,500–100,000 K), radii (0.13–2.2 R⊙), luminosities (∼40–3000 L⊙) first time. These then placed Hertzsprung–Russell diagram, along post-HB evolutionary tracks, assess status. suggest that most these are asymptotic giant (AGB)-manqué phase, all except three have masses <0.53 M⊙. also calculated theoretically expected number post-(early)-AGB found range match our observations. Seven located cluster, AstroSat/UVIT images, ideal candidates detailed follow-up spectroscopic studies.
